Why Patients Choose Dr. Van Horn

Experienced, thoughtful care focused on the whole person

William A. Van Horn, MD is a board-certified neuropsychiatrist with more than 30 years of psychiatric experience. His approach begins with understanding the person — not simply assigning a diagnosis.

  • More than 30 years of psychiatric experience

Dr. William A. Van Horn has practiced psychiatry for over three decades, with deep training at the intersection of psychiatry and neurology.

  • Care that begins with the whole person

Every evaluation considers emotional health, medical history, current medications, relationships, life circumstances, and other factors that may be contributing to what you are experiencing.

  • Individualized treatment, not a one-size-fits-all approach

Recommendations may include medication management, psychotherapy, lifestyle adjustments, or coordination with other healthcare professionals, depending on what each patient actually needs.

  • Thoughtful care for adults and adolescents

As life changes, your treatment can change with it — supporting patients across adolescence and adulthood with care that fits where they are.

  • Family-centered when family is part of healing

When relationships are part of what hurts — or part of what heals — Dr. Van Horn involves family thoughtfully, with the patient's wishes always at the center.

Our Philosophy of Care

Depression and anxiety affect much more than mood

They influence relationships, confidence, physical health, productivity, sleep, and overall quality of life.

Our goal is not simply to reduce symptoms. We are here to help people rediscover hope, regain confidence, improve daily functioning, and reconnect with the life they want to live — through thoughtful, individualized psychiatric care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions people ask before calling

When should I see a psychiatrist for depression or anxiety?

When emotional symptoms begin to interfere with sleep, work, school, relationships, or enjoyment of life — especially if they have lasted more than a few weeks. Earlier evaluation means more options and better outcomes.

Do all patients need medication?

No. Treatment is individualized. Some patients benefit from medication, others from therapy alone, and many from a thoughtful combination. Dr. Van Horn explains what each option actually offers before recommending anything.

Can therapy and medication work together?

Yes. Many patients benefit from a combination of medication management and psychotherapy. We are glad to coordinate with your existing therapist or help you find one that fits.

What if previous treatment hasn't worked?

That is more common than you might think, and it is one of the reasons patients come to us. A careful re-evaluation often reveals what was missed before — and what the right next step actually is.

Do you treat adolescents as well as adults?

Yes. We care for adults and adolescents with attention, mood, anxiety, and related conditions, with treatment plans adapted to age and life circumstances.

Is the first consultation free?

Yes. Your first call is with our clinical director, Juliet Pellegrini, MSW, at no cost, and is confidential.

Do you accept insurance?

We are an out-of-network practice and provide a superbill you can submit to your insurer. Please see our Cost of Services page or call us for details.

What should I bring to my appointment?

A list of current medications, any recent medical or mental health records if available, and a note about what you want addressed. Many patients also find it helpful to bring a family member who can speak to what they have observed.

How quickly can I be seen?

Many calls are returned the same day. Appointments may be available as soon as next week. If there is any immediate safety concern, please tell us — urgent situations are prioritized.

Can I attend without a referral?

No referral is needed. You can call our office directly or request an appointment through our website. If your primary care doctor would like to coordinate, we are glad to speak with them.
